Steps to Take After a Forklift Accident in California
What you do in the hours and days after a forklift accident directly affects your ability to recover benefits. Take these steps to protect your health and your claim:
- Seek medical attention immediately, even if injuries seem minor. TBI symptoms and internal injuries can be delayed.
- Report the injury to your employer as soon as possible. Delays can jeopardize your workers’ compensation eligibility.
- File the DWC-1 Claim Form to formally initiate the California workers’ compensation process.
- Document the scene with photographs of the forklift, accident location, visible injuries, and any equipment involved.
- Collect witness information, including names, phone numbers, and statements while memories are fresh.
