Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government has implemented several expansions to unemployment benefits to buffer the financial effects of the pandemic. Those expansions included adding $300 to each week of unemployment benefits and extending unemployment benefits to people who don’t usually qualify for them, such as independent contractors and the self-employed. However, California is
