Risk for workplace accidents high when using farm equipment

The lush green valleys of California are considered prime farming areas where many workers make their livings plowing, planting and harvesting each year. Farming and trucking industries are said by many to be the backbone of America. Both types of work include high degrees of safety risks, and workplace accidents are not uncommon.

Agriculture work often involves the use of heavy machinery. While the invention of such equipment allowed farmers to produce more in less time, progress does not come without its challenges. Many workers have been severely injured or killed after sudden equipment mishaps on the job.

A recent incident involved an agricultural worker in Salinas. It was approximately 2 p.m. on a Tuesday when the tragedy occurred. The man was in a field when somehow he became trapped between a lettuce packing conveyor and a tractor.

As is often the case in California workplace accidents, the cause of the recent accident is not yet known. Investigators are pursuing the situation, but details as to how the man became pinned between the heavy pieces of machinery are yet unclear. In addition to the utter shock and devastating grief such circumstances pour upon families, there are often complications when it comes to spouses claiming benefits on behalf of deceased workers, and other issues regarding compensation benefits may arise. Anyone in need of guidance may contact a workers' compensation attorney, who can clarify state laws and provide insight as to how best to address particular situations so that families get the help they need.
