This type of situation is why workers' compensation exists

Anyone whose ever been injured on the job in California understands how challenging the recovery process can be. Thankfully, the workers' compensation program is designed to help recovering victims of workplace accidents cover medical expenses and replace lost wages when injuries prevent them from returning to their duties. A recent tragic accident that occurred in another state is an example of a type of situation that often leads to a benefits claim being filed.

This particular accident happened at a recycling plant. Several workers were reportedly trying to unload to a vehicle from the flatbed of a truck. Although many details regarding the incident were not reported, at some point, it seems the vehicle somehow slipped off the truck bed and fell on top of one of the workers.

The worker was pinned underneath the vehicle. His colleagues combined efforts and were able to lift the heavy weight so the man could be rescued. Emergency treatment was provided at the scene. The man suffered serious injuries, however, and was transported to a nearby hospital for further care.

As is often the case in situations like this one (which occurred in Virginia) the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has launched an investigation in the aftermath of the workplace accident. In the meantime, California employees who have navigated the workers' compensation system know how complicated the process can be. An experienced attorney can advocate on behalf of a recovering worker to help expedite the process, prevent delays and overcome any obstacles that may arise.
