Senator advocates program to help prevent workplace accidents

California farming and construction industries are among others in the nation at high risk for worker injuries. Workplace accidents are not uncommon in situations where there is frequent use of heavy machinery and fuel-powered equipment. Tractors, specifically, are often involved in rollover accidents that cause serious injuries, even death, to agricultural workers.

A rebate program aimed at helping prevent farm deaths has captured the attention of a republican senator in another state. She has advocated on behalf of those seeking a return of nearly one million dollars in funding for the Rollover Protection Structure Rebate Program. Many say this program helps reduce approximately 99 percent of potential injuries related to tractors.

The program provides funds to help equip tractors with a particular safety mechanism. This piece of equipment has proved successful in preventing farm accident deaths, even in tractor rollover situations. The program was established a decade or so ago, and since its inception, at least 1500 tractors have been outfitted with the specialized safety equipment.

This senator recently stated that work-related deaths occur among farmers 800 times more often than those working other types of jobs. A farmer who supports the senator's efforts said one can never put a price on safety. Many farming families in California and elsewhere have been utterly devastated after workplace accidents took the lives of their loved ones. The aftermaths of such tragic situations often include complications regarding compensation benefits due to grieving widows and family members. Anyone facing such challenges may seek support by contacting an experienced workers' compensation attorney.
