Where to find help after workplace accidents in California

Depending on one's scope of employment, just going to work every day may pose a safety risk. Many construction jobs and factory-related duties are dangerous in and of themselves because of heavy machinery and other job conditions. When workplace accidents occur in California or elsewhere, families are often devastated and worried about where to go for help as they assist an injured loved one in recovery.

A 27-year-old veteran of the U.S. Army was involved in a recent horrific work accident in another state. He was using a piece of equipment that contained a huge piece of scrap metal. At some point, while he was tending to something else on the job, the scrap metal became stuck in the machine.

The man reached into the machine to dislodge the metal. While doing so, the machine slammed shut on his hand. As he tells it, he was working on sheer adrenaline from that point forward. He managed to get the machine back open, but immediately noticed that his fingers were merely hanging off his hand like threads. He used a colleague's belt to fashion a tourniquet, and emergency rescuers came to the scene to assist.

Rescue workers and surgeons were credited for their fast action. They saved his thumb and part of his index finger. The army veteran said it is unlikely he will ever be able to return to work. In California, workers' compensation attorneys guide families through the process of finding the help they need after workplace accidents; anyone facing complications related to such issues may request a consultation.
