OSHA investigates 30 work-related deaths in another state

California construction workers understand the dangerous natures of their jobs. From working alongside moving traffic to regularly using heavy machinery, the risks involved are many and accidents are not uncommon. However, in some areas accidents on the job appear to be more prevalent than others. In fact, so far in 2016, OSHA has investigated at least 30 work\-related deaths in one other state, alone.

A particular construction company has been scrutinized in more than 20 safety investigations since 2012. The company was cited in at least 16 different incidents, two of which involved fatalities. One of the most recent investigations began after an accident that resulted in a man's death.

He was operating a scissor lift high up in a building at the time. At some point, while using the huge machine, the man apparently drove right off the 14th floor and plummeted to his death. Throughout the nation, many safety alerts regarding scissor lifts have been issued.

There are many known hazards associated with this type of equipment. Anyone considering working in the construction industry may want to  research how many work-related deaths in California have been associated with scissor lifts or other heavy machinery. Families of workers may have need for legal assistance in the aftermath of an on-the-job accident that takes the life of their loved one. A workers' compensation attorney can guide a spouse or other immediate family member through the entire process of claiming benefits to which he or she may be entitled to help pay medical costs for any care rendered before death, replace lost wages or offset other expenses related to a fatal workplace accident.
