Where to seek guidance after work-related deaths in California

When workplace accidents occur in California or anywhere else in the nation, the results are often devastating. Work-related deaths not only cause suffering to families of workers but often times lead to complications and stress when family members try to obtain benefits in the wakes of such tragedies. An investigation into one such incident is currently ongoing in another state.

The horrible workplace accident occurred on a recent Tuesday evening at a cement factory. The identity of the man who died has not been released to the public. Results of a preliminary investigation suggest that a mechanical failure on a piece of equipment may have caused the man's death.

It is apparently not the first time a fatal accident has occurred at the Kentucky cement plant. In 2014, a worker there fell down a shaft inside an elevator and died. The recent incident did not involve an elevator but a pulley system that appears to have failed during use.

When any worker in California survives his or her injuries that have occurred during the normal course of duty on the job, that worker is typically entitled to compensation benefits to help pay medical costs and replace lost wages. Such benefits are provided through employer-purchased insurance. When accidents result in work\-related deaths, such benefits may be transferred to a spouse or other immediate family member. Because the circumstances of an individual situation may be complicated, a person with questions or concerns may seek answers by contacting a workers' compensation attorney in the area.
