Construction accidents not uncommon in California

A California specialty contractor recently spoke following a building accident on a construction site. He said such construction accidents are not uncommon in that line of work and that, generally speaking, construction work is inherently dangerous. The man who spoke had been working in an adjacent building to the one where the accident took place.

Lawsuit claims California's worker's compensation system biased against women

The purpose of the workers' compensation system is to provide medical care and (partial or full) income to injured workers. In the event a worker suffers a fatality, workers' compensation provides survivor benefits to the family members of the worker. To receive workers' compensation benefits, the worker must waive his or her right to sue the employer under common law. However, a new lawsuit brought against California's Division of Workers' Compensation and several other state departments and officials claims that the system discriminates against women.

Work-related deaths typically result in lengthy investigations

An employee of a California gas and electronic company died recently. He was working at the time the accident occurred. An investigation into the incident has been launched, but a company spokesman reminded the public that the company's first priority is to reach out to the man's grieving family. It often takes a long time to investigate work\-related deaths.

OSHA often investigates workplace accidents in California

Some California jobs are more dangerous than others. Obviously, being a professional stunt person might rank somewhat high on a list for jobs that contain an inherent risk. However, all job sites are to be kept as safe as possible for employees and all rules and regulations followed regarding proper training and procedures that are meant to help prevent workplace accidents.

Addressing the legalities of workplace illness in California

California is home to many types of businesses, factories, institutions and facilities, all with different workplace environments. Some jobs typically include more inherent risks than others. Although many people have heard of (or experienced) accidents on the job, some might be surprised to learn how easily a workplace illness can occur.
